Collecorvino Among Hills and History

Collecorvino is a place whose character can be seen particularly in its landscape, architecture and religious buildings. The hills of Collecorvino are covered with vineyards and olive groves. The Belvedere of Collecorvino is located on a hill at an elevation of 253 metres. This elevation refers to the Belvedere and not to the entire municipal area.

Landscape Along the Cammino d’Abruzzo

A specific connection to the landscape is the Penne–Collecorvino stage of Il Cammino d’Abruzzo. As an independent section, it passes through olive groves, vineyards and wheat fields. The combination of vineyards and olive groves characterises both this section of the route and the hills of Collecorvino; wheat fields broaden the landscape of the Cammino d’Abruzzo.

Convent, Fresco and Churches

One of the prominent cultural features is the Convento San Patrignano, which has been completely restored. Its refectory contains a 17th-century fresco depicting the Last Supper. The fresco had been hidden for centuries before coming to light again.

Several churches also provide their own architectural highlights. Sant’Andrea Apostolo has ancient Benedictine origins. The Chiesa dell’Incoronata has a brick façade framed by two twin bell towers. The Chiesa di San Rocco has a typical 16th-century architectural form and a façade designed in the pure Renaissance style. Collecorvino also has an old castle with a neoclassical appearance.

Santa Lucia and Local Traditions

The Chiesa di Santa Lucia is located in the Contrada Villa Santa Lucia within the municipal area. It is believed to date from the 16th century. A local tradition is the Festa di Santa Lucia in Collecorvino, which takes place on the second Sunday in May. The Santa Lucia spring in Villa Santa Lucia can be reached via a path to the right of the church. This path leads to a simple rectangular basin with three outlets.

Palazzo Cicoria and the “pagliare”

Another historical highlight is Palazzo Cicoria in Collecorvino. It was built in the first years of the 20th century. The Collecorvino area also contains numerous traditional buildings made of straw and clay, known as “pagliare”. The term “pagliare” refers to the traditional buildings themselves and not only to the materials.
