Fano Adriano features a mountain landscape with the Selva forest, unusual rock formations, historic churches and the winter sports resort of Prato Selva. Nature experiences, regional history and specific information on accessibility offer you different starting points for planning an individual trip.
Forest and Characteristic Rock Formations
Fano Adriano is characterized by the Selva forest, whose diverse tree population creates a distinctive landscape in autumn. Paths through the vegetation in the immediate surroundings of Fano Adriano lead to the Merletti rock formations. These include the natural Cammello arch and the Grotta delle Fate cave. The Vene Rosse are rocky ridges with a distinctive coloration in the immediate surroundings of Fano Adriano.
Trails, Prato Selva and Mountain Activities
The Da Prato Selva al Colle delle Monache route begins in Prato Selva, in the municipality of Fano Adriano, and passes by the Rocchetta stream, the Prati di Incodara, Colle delle Monache and the foot of the Crivellaro ravine. Prato Selva is a small winter sports resort at an altitude of 1,400 meters in the municipality of Fano Adriano, in the forests of Monte Corvo on the Teramo side of the Gran Sasso. Hiking, snowshoeing and mountain biking are possible there. Prato Selva is also a stage of the Ippovia del Gran Sasso, a riding route more than 500 kilometers long that crosses large parts of the national park.
The Pasto Nudo climbing wall is located on a rocky peak of the Vene Rosse and can be climbed from the Grignetti. The Grignetti are three basins carved into the rock that were used for wine production in antiquity. The difficulty level of the Pasto Nudo climbing wall is not recommended for beginners. A path from Fano Adriano leads through an artificially planted coniferous forest to the Eremo dell'Annunziata on Colle San Marcello.
Churches, Museum and Local History
The Chiesa dei SS. Pietro e Paolo was built in 1335 on the remains of a Roman temple. The Chiesetta dell'Annunziata on Colle San Marcello dates in its present form to the 16th century. The Chiesetta di San Rocco in the Villa Moreni district features characteristics of the 17th century. The Chiesa di Sant'Egidio Abate is of medieval origin and has been documented since 1324.
The Museo Etnografico delle Tradizioni Popolari is a permanent institution that makes everyday objects and handicrafts from Cerqueto and other places in the surrounding area accessible to the public, thereby documenting life and activities in the past. The museum houses more than 1,000 objects from fields such as agriculture, livestock farming, wood and wool processing, crafts and household equipment.
Accessibility of Individual Destinations
The Chiesetta dell'Alpino stands at the summit of Colle Abetone, at an altitude of 1,775 meters, in a dense beech forest in the Monte Corvo area. Access to the Chiesetta dell'Alpino and the condition of the path are unsuitable for people with disabilities. The Chiesetta di San Rocco has two steps at the entrance, making access more difficult for people with disabilities. You should take these differences into account when selecting your excursions.
Fano Adriano hosted a summer Sagra delle scrippelle.
