Poggiorsini: Old Town, Festival Culture and the Landscape of Alta Murgia

Poggiorsini is one of the municipalities in Alta Murgia National Park. The landscape of the national park is characterised by rocky ridges, sinkholes, swallow holes and karst caves. Around 50 species of orchids bloom on the Murge. Poggiorsini also offers an impressive view of the valleys of the Roviniero stream, a tributary of the Basentello.

The rocky outcrop on which the Castello del Garagnone once stood offers a sweeping view over the Bradano basin. The annual Patron Saint's Festival of Madonna Maria SS. Addolorata takes place in Poggiorsini on 9, 10 and 11 August. The festival includes a procession through the streets of Poggiorsini. Three concerts with live music are also part of the tradition on each of the three evenings.
