Beach sections and shoreline forms
San Menaio has a long, almost straight beach. Numerous beach resorts alternate with free beach sections. Near Macchia di Mare, the beach initially transitions into a pebble beach and subsequently into a high cliff coast. The gently sloping seabed of San Menaio beach makes it suitable for families with children. For spatial planning in San Menaio, both the seabed and the height of the shore are therefore relevant. The shallow seabed belongs to San Menaio beach, not to the adjoining pebble or cliff section.
At the final section of San Menaio beach, where it transitions into Spiaggia dei Cento Scalini, also known as delle Tufare, inflatable boats and canoes can be rented. The boat rental is located at this transition in the course of the coastline. This keeps the rental option assigned to a clearly designated beach section and means that it does not refer to the entire long beach. At the end of the beach, the transition is therefore also associated with a specific option for inflatable boats and canoes.
Pineta Marzini and landscape protection
Under the Italian landscape protection law of 29 June 1939, No. 1497, San Menaio is recognized as an area of considerable public interest. Pineta Marzini is regarded as one of the few Italian pine forests described as genetically pure. Aleppo pines account for a high proportion of Pineta Marzini; the holm oak is also found there.
Along the country roads leading from the Lungomare into the hills as far as San Menaio, extensive orange and lemon cultivation areas can be seen.
