Felitto between Gorges and Village Culture

Felitto combines the Calore gorge landscape with a medieval-style historic center and a distinctive culinary tradition. The protected area of the Gole del Calore covers 120 hectares and extends from the medieval bridge below Felitto to the boundary with the area of Magliano. The fourth and fifth sections of the Gole del Calore are located in Remolino, in the municipality of Felitto. Numerous otters live in the Calore River. For nature enthusiasts, this means that not only the landscape itself but also the river as a habitat is one of the defining features of the area. The Ponte di Pretatetta was formed when two enormous boulders fell from opposite valley walls and became wedged together.

Nature Experiences at the Gole del Calore

A nature trail from Remolino leads to the medieval arched bridge at the foot of Magliano Nuovo. The route is approximately 5 kilometers long and takes two hours. For day planning, the route from Remolino to the arched bridge represents an approximately two-hour section; canyoning and swimming are separate activities available along the Calore. The Circuito delle Gole del Calore da Felitto begins at the picnic area of the Oasi di Remolino. Canyoning is possible in the gorges of the Calore River between Felitto and Magliano Nuovo. Swimming in the Calore River is also possible at the Oasi di Remolino.

Historic Center and Local Culture

The historic center of Felitto is crisscrossed by narrow, winding, cobblestone-paved alleyways; some sections are carved into the rock. The Palazzo Baronale, also known as the Castello, stands at the highest point of the historic center. Below the town is the medieval Punticieddu bridge, which is regarded as a symbol of Felitto's history. The Museo della Civiltà Contadina e Artigiana is housed in a building in the historic center, on Via Pomerio. The cave locally known as Binnardo can be reached upstream from Remolino.

Fusillo and Festivals Throughout the Year

The Fusillo di Felitto produced in Felitto, also known as U' fusillu, is a handmade, hollow pasta roll measuring 18 to 22 cm in length, made from eggs, flour, salt, water and olive oil. It is shaped using a very thin square iron rod. Fusillo di Felitto has a centuries-old tradition that is still passed down orally from mother to daughter. Sapori d’Autunno is a gastronomic tour through the streets of Felitto's medieval historic center. The Sagra del Fusillo Felittese is a gastronomic festival held every year during the second ten-day period of August. The Festa della Madonna di Costantinopoli is a festival held on the second Sunday in September. The two festival dates fall in different months and provide a point of reference for travel planning.
