Ceramics and Creative Tradition in San Nicola
San Nicola offers a special gateway to the artisanal traditions around Ogliara. The Fornaci De Martino are the only surviving example of the traditional artisanal ceramic-making techniques found there. At this site, visitors can follow the traditional ceramic production cycle using bundles of fuel: from extraction in the pit to the cutting of each individual tile by the stone mason. The Museo Città Creativa is also part of this cultural focus. The “Via del Fuoco” walk includes both a visit to the museum and to the Fornaci De Martino. The Museo Città Creativa was founded in 1997 as a project to revive the artisanal tradition of “cotto di Rufoli”.
Church History in Ogliara
Another area of focus is Ogliara’s ecclesiastical history. The former church of the parish of San Nicola was located in the eastern part of the hill district of Ogliara. At the beginning of the 19th century, the parish of San Nicola was finally dissolved and merged with the parish of Santa Maria. The present-day church of Santa Maria e San Nicola di Ogliara emerged from the merger of two original parishes. Because of its historical and cultural value, it is protected; the basis for this is Regional Decree 1073 of July 7, 2011.

A CAI hike in 2026 leads from Ogliara via Pianello Sant’Angelo at an elevation of 450 meters and the Santuario Madonna della Stella at an elevation of 872 meters to Monte Stella. Monte Stella can be reached by road from Ogliara. The route is classified as a hiking trail and includes a somewhat steep section. This tour therefore places both the sequence of notable points and the character of the route firmly at the center.
