A Harbor Town with a Rich History
Known in the past as Porto di Magnavacca, Porto Garibaldi is considered the most historic settlement among the Lidi di Comacchio. At the same time, it was the first seaside resort in this coastal landscape.
The monument Allegoria della marina is located in Piazza don Giovanni Verità in Porto Garibaldi. The Giuseppe Garibaldi monument also stands along the waterfront promenade of Via Caduti del Mare. It commemorates Giuseppe Garibaldi’s historic landing on August 3, 1849.

Traces in the Town and Surrounding Area
The history of Porto Garibaldi also includes the forts and bunkers of the Linea Gengis Khan from the Second World War. Such military relics can be found in Porto Garibaldi and Lido degli Estensi. Another independent attraction is Porto Garibaldi’s present-day parish church, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The town’s cultural character therefore extends from its historic connection with the harbor and the events of the 19th century to sacred architecture and traces of the 20th century.
Beach Resorts and Excursions on the Water
Porto Garibaldi has equipped beach resorts and is therefore also suitable as a destination for days by the water. In summer, motorboats depart from the fishing harbor for sport-fishing trips targeting mackerel and small tuna. Motorboat excursions to the Po Delta and the Valli di Comacchio also depart from Porto Garibaldi. These destinations extend the stay beyond the town itself and highlight the connection between the coast, harbor, and lagoon landscape.
Several trips operated by the Motonave Dalì depart from Porto Garibaldi and travel through different types of landscapes. One trip follows the coast to the Po river mouths and Isola dell'Amore; this excursion includes a fish lunch on board. Another motorboat excursion goes to the Sacca degli Scardovari and Porto Barricata beach, with lunch served on board. A sunset cruise heads toward the Valli di Comacchio and includes an aperitif on board. Depending on your interests, you can experience coastal cruising, delta and lagoon landscapes, and regional cuisine in a variety of excursion formats.
Events at the Canal Harbor
Throughout the year, Porto Garibaldi’s canal harbor hosts folkloric events such as the Festa dell'Ospitalità . Together with the fishing harbor, boat excursions, and beach resorts, this venue shapes the destination’s maritime character. Porto Garibaldi is therefore particularly interesting when choosing accommodation if you want to combine historic connections to the town, experiences on the water, and excursions into the Po Delta landscape during a single stay.
Travel via Ferrara
From the A13, you can reach the Ferrara–Porto Garibaldi expressway via the Ferrara Sud exit. After 47 km, take the Comacchio exit.
