Archaeology and Sacred Art
In the Montale district of Castelnuovo Rangone lies the Archaeological Park and Open-Air Museum of the Terramara di Montale, dedicated to the Terramare culture. The open-air museum includes a life-size reconstruction of part of a Terramare village based on archaeological findings. The immersive visit uses projections and LED walls to tell the story of the Terramare culture from its foundation to its abandonment.
The Church of San Celestino was built between 1856 and 1864 and furnished with three paintings by Adeodato Malatesta. One of them was created between 1871 and 1873 and is located on the high altar. The large painting depicts Saint Celestine presenting Saint Cyril with the decree concerning the Nestorian heresy.
Traces in the Historic Centre and Contemporary Art
The medieval walls of Castelnuovo Rangone date back to the 13th century; part of them was uncovered during restoration work. Il Pozzo Ritrovato re-emerged during restoration work and excavations in the historic centre and can be seen on Via Roma. CRAC Spazio Arte is the space for contemporary art provided by the Municipality of Castelnuovo Rangone. The works displayed there can be viewed from outside through the transparent shop window every day, around the clock.
MuSa and Local Tradition
At MuSa, the museum route covers approximately 250 square metres across three floors and uses multimedia panels and artistic installations. As a multimedia tour, MuSa conveys the flavours and traditional knowledge behind the production of cured meats and meat products. Since June 1998, 22 permanent glass poetry display cases have stood in the parks, along the cycling paths and in the streets of the historic town centres of Castelnuovo Rangone. The Superzampone Festival is held regularly on the first Sunday in December.
Cycling Route and Parks
The Jack Kerouac cycling route is an approximately ten-kilometre section of the Modena–Vignola cycling route and runs through Castelnuovo Rangone, Spilamberto and Castelvetro. It was created along a former provincial railway line; at the former railway keeper's houses, panels display texts from novels by the American writer. The Modena–Vignola cycling route passes a fully restored old railway station. It then continues towards Spilamberto along Provincial Road No. 16, crosses the town centre and reaches Vignola.
Collina delle Fiabe is a green space in Parco Rio Gamberi populated by characters from popular children's stories. John Lennon Park was inaugurated on 8 December 1985 and has hosted concerts, cultural initiatives and events every year since then.
