Discover Colombaro: Via Romea, Golf and River Landscapes

Colombaro can be discovered through several special points of interest: a historic route leads to a parish church, the Modena Golf & Country Club shapes the town’s sporting character, and along the Secchia, open landscapes feature a gravel bed, ponds and riverside hedges. In addition, there is an 800-metre-long, fully illuminated cycle path.

Via Romea and the Pieve di Colombaro

The Italian section of the Via Romea Germanica Imperiale runs from Trento to Arezzo over almost 600 kilometres. The route leads to the Pieve di Colombaro, giving the town a historical connection within an extensive route through Italy. This connection may be particularly interesting for you if you understand travel not only through individual sights, but also through routes, landscapes and deeply rooted religious traditions.

Historic Buildings in Colombaro

The Pieve di San Giacomo di Colombaro was already standing in 1127. Its floor plan is shaped like a Latin cross. At the same time, the Pieve di San Giacomo in Colombaro is the oldest monument in the municipality of Formigine. Restoration and renovation work was carried out on the complex of the Pieve di San Giacomo Maggiore and its parish residence in Colombaro.

Another architectural point of interest is Villa Maria al Tiepido. It was built at the end of the 19th century in the eclectic style at the request of Francesco Aggazzotti and is located near the golf courses.

Golf and Cycle Paths as Active Travel Options

The Modena Golf & Country Club extends across more than 100 hectares in Colombaro. Its Bernhard Langer championship course has 18 holes, a par of 72 and a length of 6,423 metres. These clear figures help you assess the golf facilities as an independent focus of your trip. In addition, the Colombaro–Montale Rangone cycle path runs for 800 metres. A continuous guardrail separates it from the road, and the cycle path is also fully illuminated.

River Landscapes near Colombarone

The Colombarone area features an extensive gravel bed, ponds and hedges along the riverbanks near the mouth of the Torrente Fossa di Spezzano. These landscape features were restored by the provincial administration. Colombarone also includes an approximately 1.5-kilometre section of the Secchia River near the provincial border with Reggio Emilia. This approximate length conveys a realistic sense of scale without defining the section as an exact boundary.

The Percorso Natura Secchia also passes through the municipal area of Formigine. It crosses the Torrente Fossa on a metal bridge and then reaches the Oasi di Colombarone.
