Churches with medieval and modern-era traces

The Chiesa di San Pietro Apostolo houses a statue of Saint Peter in a niche above the portal. The work is dated to the period between the 13th century and the beginning of the 14th century. The construction history of the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista probably dates back to around 1580: it was presumably built on the remains of an older, destroyed church. In 1696, the painter Lampi decorated its presbytery with frescoes. The dedication of the church is primarily associated with popular devotion seeking protection from flooding by the nearby river.

The Chiesa di San Silvestro dates from the 17th century. The present building was created through an extension carried out between 1773 and 1786. Together, the churches make different periods visible, without their history being confined to a single era.

Villa Sbruglio and a find from the Imperial era

Villa Sbruglio was built in 1611. Its architectural features include a Doric pronaos, that is, a vestibule, and a monumental flight of steps. During the First World War, part of the villa was used for military purposes. Another historical reference is the Aretta votiva al Dio Isonzo, a votive altar from the Imperial era. It was discovered in 1989 in the Canciani gravel pit in San Pier d'Isonzo.

Landscape of particular environmental value

The agricultural-landscape zone E4.2 lies within the A.R.I.A. area no. 19 of the Isonzo. It comprises areas of particular environmental value that require protective measures as well as use for social and cultural purposes. The hill formations of Colle di Sant'Elia are also considered an area of historical and natural-scientific interest and are subject to environmental protection. As a result, San Pier d'Isonzo highlights not only buildings, but also landscape forms and their particular significance.

Only pedestrian and bicycle traffic is permitted in zone E4.2. Motorized vehicles may enter and travel there only with the municipality's authorization, for work-related reasons or for people with disabilities. This regulation is important for your orientation when planning routes and landscape areas within the municipality.

Trails, canals and different route connections

Le vie dell'acqua is a network of trails, unpaved roads and paved roads with little traffic in the municipality of San Pier d'Isonzo. Itinerario I2 passes through the municipalities of Ronchi dei Legionari and San Pier d'Isonzo. Itinerario I3 connects San Pier d'Isonzo with Sagrado via side roads and agricultural paths that run approximately along the main canals. In the 19th and 20th centuries, these canals made it possible to reclaim the entire Monfalcone area. For your trip planning, the spatial connections therefore differ: I2 passes through several municipalities, while I3 is more closely linked to canals and agricultural paths.
