History Between Castle and Church

The Castello di Caporiacco was built between 1026 and 1045 as a fortified residence for the noble Caporiacco family. However, its history encompasses more than just the period of its construction: over the course of its history, the Castello di Caporiacco suffered fires and looting, including during the peasant uprising on Shrove Thursday in 1511.

Sacred architecture is also part of the townscape. The Chiesa di San Lorenzo martire in Caporiacco is currently used for religious services. The Campanile della chiesa di San Lorenzo martire is a freestanding tower and is currently used as a bell tower. The two buildings therefore represent religious use extending into the present day, although the church building and the tower do not have the same architectural form.

In 2025 and 2026, the Antico Molino F.lli Persello in Caporiacco offered guided tours with the miller by prior arrangement. The tour focuses on the operation of the mill and the miller's work, while the individual appointment requires advance booking.

At the historic site of Molino Persello in Colloredo di Monte Albano, Molino Persello offers practical baking and cooking courses. The two offerings differ in location and content: in Caporiacco, the tour with the miller is the focus, while in Colloredo di Monte Albano, baking and cooking take centre stage.

Walking Through the Landscape

The “Camminata tra Caporiacco e Mels” circular route follows unpaved and paved roads through the landscape between Caporiacco and Mels. The alternation between unpaved and paved sections characterises the course of the route.

Within the municipality of Colloredo di Monte Albano, the Valle del Cormor bridleway also runs along the Cormor River. The unpaved path can be used on horseback, by mountain bike and on foot.

Festivals and Sacred Traditions

Another point of interest is the Chiesetta di San Martino in Caporiacco. A solemn Mass commemorating Saint Martin was scheduled there for 13 November. The Festa di San Martino was celebrated in Caporiacco on both 8 November and 13 November.
