Gemona Del Friuli between River Landscape and History
Gemona del Friuli lies between the Tagliamento River and the Cuarnan and Cjampon mountains. The diverse natural landscape provides the setting for a stay that combines culture and outdoor routes. The tour begins in an atrium behind the entrance to Vicolo delle Mura, where stone artefacts from the 13th to the 17th century are displayed. The collection also includes fragments of frescoes from the 12th to the 15th century that came from the cathedral, as well as antiphonaries and graduals from the late 13th century. Old liturgical vestments are embroidered with gold, silver and silk threads. The historic parish archive collection preserves the oldest known baptismal registers, which begin in 1379.

For a compact exploration of the city walls, the 4 km Percorso delle antiche mura di Gemona circular route is ideal. It starts and ends at the cathedral; along the way, it leads to the medieval city walls and their associated gates. The Percorso vita is a 611-metre-long route through green surroundings with 14 stations for exercises and training. The entire facility can also be used freely by local residents.
The Festa degli aquiloni can be traced back more than 600 years and takes place on Ascension Day in the meadows of Sella Sant’Agnese. The festival is open to everyone; at the Bottega degli aquiloni, an activity for building kites is part of the programme. A culinary connection to Gemona is Pan di sorc, a Slow Food Presidium associated with Gemona.
