The old town of Marano Lagunare preserves the memory of an ancient fortress in its urban layout; its fundamental supporting structure remains unchanged. The Archaeological Museum of the Lagoon offers a broad insight into the lagoon’s past. It preserves more than 500 handmade objects from the lagoons of Marano and Grado and from the coastal strip behind them. The exhibition traces the settlement history of the lagoon from the Neolithic and Bronze Age through the Roman period and the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.
The individual historical sights include the parish church of San Martino and the Torre Millenaria. The church has an organ built in 1773 by the Venetian organ builder Francesco Dacci. The Torre Millenaria contains a functioning clock mechanism dating from 1739. Both details give the history of the town a tangible dimension that extends into its architecture and technical features.
Traditions Throughout the Year
The Tocco is a traditional fishing event in Marano Lagunare that takes place twice a year: the “Tocco di Quaresima” in spring and the “Tocco di Peschere” in autumn. The San Vito procession takes place every year on 15 June or on the following Sunday.
