Prato Carnico offers culture-minded travelers a tangible insight into the history of timekeeping. The Percorso dell’Orologeria monumentale is an open-air museum that complements the Museo dell’Orologeria pesarina with an exhibition route featuring monumental clocks. In Pesariis, clocks for town and church towers have been produced since 1725. The open-air route and the museum place different aspects at the forefront: monumental clocks outdoors and Pesarine clockmaking in the museum. A cultural section in Prato Carnico therefore alternates between open-air stations, the museum and traditional craftsmanship as distinct stops. Historical Domestic Culture at Casa Bruseschi
Casa Bruseschi preserves the unchanged features of a 16th- and 17th-century Carnic house type, as well as original furniture and household items, documents, photographs, paintings and family furnishings belonging to the family. The kitchen of the Museo Casa Bruseschi contains a traditional FogolĂ r, a fireplace with a double hood. At Casa Bruseschi, the Carnic house type, original furnishings and the FogolĂ r are the central elements together.
Museum in a Former Dairy
The Historical Museum of Cameras and Cinecameras is located in the rooms of a former dairy and displays cameras, film cameras and amateur projectors. The building’s former use is presented alongside the history of technology. Unlike the domestic culture of Casa Bruseschi, the focus here is on a former dairy space.
Mountains, Stages and a Short Hike
Monte Forchia and Monte Pleros are mountains in the immediate surroundings of Prato Carnico. The long-distance hiking connection is represented by Rifugio F.lli de Gasperi, a stage point on Alta Via n. 6, the Alta Via dei Silenzi. From Truia, a short hike leads to the Stavoli Orias, a group of about fifteen old farmsteads. The farmsteads were formerly used as livestock shelters during transhumance. Transhumance refers here to the seasonal movement between grazing areas. For daily planning, the short hike to Truia represents a different time frame from the rifugio’s stage point on the Alta Via. The Stavoli Orias form a historic settlement landscape at the destination of the short route.
Val Pesarina: Gastronomy and Biodiversity
In Val Pesarina, the traditional event Arlois & Fasois combines gastronomy, culture and local traditions. Beans in the numerous varieties grown there are regarded in Val Pesarina as an expression of biodiversity that should be preserved, maintained and enhanced. When arriving from the direction of Tolmezzo, the route leads via Villa Santina and Ovaro towards the Degano Valley. After Ovaro, the road branches off towards Val Pesarina and the locality of Piani di Casa.
