Between Lake Maggiore and the mountains

Oggebbio lies on the shore of Lake Maggiore and borders directly on the mountains. The lakeshore and proximity to the mountains shape the town at the same time and give trip planning two clear perspectives: the lake landscape and the adjoining mountain region. In between are paths, religious buildings and a distinctive garden culture that characterize Oggebbio beyond the individual impression of the landscape.

Routes for Nordic walking and walks

A particular focus for anyone who wants to explore a place on foot is the Nordic Walking and Nordic Trekking Park. It comprises nine routes specially created for Nordic walking and Nordic trekking, distributed throughout the Oggebbio area. Many of these routes can also be used for easy walks. The network of paths is therefore not aimed exclusively at physically fit visitors, but offers different ways to experience the landscape at your own pace.

The southern Via delle Genti route also adds a cultural dimension. Its section in Oggebbio includes twelve churches. This gives you a specific reason to view the landscape together with its built and religious character rather than separately from it.

Churches with Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance elements

In Gonte stands the parish church with three naves and a ceiling covered with frescoes depicting the life of Jesus. Its furnishings also include a crucifix created in 1712 by the Milanese sculptor Pietro Frasa. The bell tower is 42 metres high and the tallest in Alto Verbano. This single church building thus combines a clearly structured interior, religious art, a dated artwork and a tower that stands out from afar.

The Oratorio di San Bernardo da Mentone was originally dedicated to San Zenone. Today, it is dedicated to San Bernardo d'Aosta, also known as San Bernardo da Mentone. Another historical layer is shown by the Chiesa di Sant'Agata: it has a Romanesque basic structure that was integrated in the 14th century into an extension with a mountainside-facing façade as well as Gothic and Renaissance elements. Oggebbio's churches thus make different phases in the development of religious architecture immediately visible.

Villa Anelli and the camellia collection

Villa Anelli adds a garden whose design and plant collection are closely connected. In 1872, the Milanese nobleman Carlo Berzio had it designed as a romantic garden inspired by the aesthetics of the Sublime. The garden covers 5,000 square metres, lies on both sides of a stream and includes numerous terraces with stone walls.

This garden becomes particularly tangible through its camellia collection. It comprises 500 plants from 318 spring-flowering varieties, 40 winter-flowering varieties and 30 botanical species. Oggebbio's special microclimate favours the growth of camellias. At Villa Anelli, historic garden design, small-scale terraces and an extensive collection with different flowering periods thus stand side by side.

Planning by date

From 3 June to 9 September 2026, the Oggebbio landing stage in the Spasolo district will be in operation every Wednesday. It is located at Via Nazionale 27, at Oggebbio harbour. A timetable is available for Villa Anelli's public openings on spring weekends. These two specific time references complement the landscape, trails and architecture topics that can be described year-round with seasonal planning points.
