The Museo Giacomo Manzù is an Italian state museum in Ardea dedicated to the work of the sculptor Giacomo Manzù. Archaeological history can be seen at Castrum Inui. The area lies on both banks of the lower course of the Fosso dell’Incastro along the SS 601. Castrum Inui was the seaport of Ardea and enabled maritime trade relations with the outside world, particularly with the Greeks. The oldest area is dated to the period between the 6th and 1st centuries BC. It includes two temples located on either side of a square paved with tuff slabs.

The Oratorio Cristiano Ipogeo also spans several eras. It contains frescoes from the Byzantine school dating from the 12th century; it was initially created as a pagan nymphaeum in the 2nd century BC and used as a Christian place of worship from the 5th century AD onward. The Church of San Pietro on the ancient Rocca of Ardea has origins dating back to the 9th century. The Church of Santa Marina was built in the 13th century. The Torre di San Lorenzo was completed in 1570 and is more than 30 meters high.

Gardens, Beach and Nature

The Giardini della Landriana are divided into botanical “rooms,” each characterized by a particular botanical feature. For group visits, lunch and guided tours in various languages are available. This allows the garden to be planned differently depending on the group and the preferred form of sightseeing.

Tor San Lorenzo is a beach on the coast of Ardea, which forms part of the Riviera di Roma. On its seafront promenade at kilometer 22.300, Ardea has the Angez Dog Beach, a beach equipped for dogs. For 2025, Ardea’s waters were classified as predominantly good and one area as excellent in Lazio’s bathing water classification. Colonies of grey herons can also be observed along the course of the Incastro River.

Another way to experience the landscape outdoors is offered by the Golf Club Mare di Roma in Marina di Ardea. It has a 9-hole course laid out on predominantly flat terrain around three lakes fed by natural springs.

Local Specialties

Ardea’s culinary offerings include the Pantano tomato, which is one of the local specialties. Boccacce are sweet fried pizzas and are also local specialties of Ardea. In addition, Ardea lies within the area where Castelli Romani DOC wine is produced.
