Osteria Nuova: Churches, Landscapes and Local Culture

Osteria Nuova combines religious tradition, architectural landmarks and a predominantly rural setting in Municipio Roma XV. You can explore the area through three points of interest: the parish of Sant’Andrea Apostolo, the Aste Taurine complex and the nearby Monumento Naturale di Galeria Antica. Church, Oratory and Local Tradition

The parish of Sant’Andrea Apostolo is located at Via Lamon 15 in Osteria Nuova. Its oratory is dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi. The space, measuring nearly 150 square metres, was built for meetings and community gatherings. The Ottavario provides another historical connection: it commemorates the consecration of the church of Sant’Andrea Apostolo in Galeria Antica in 1204.

The 2013 patronal celebration is also part of this religious tradition. At that time, a procession bearing the image of Saint Andrew passed through several streets of Osteria Nuova to the Anguillarese. It included a special stop with a blessing at the local primary and secondary school. The Ottavario commemorates the consecration of the church of Sant’Andrea Apostolo in Galeria Antica in 1204; Galeria Antica is located near Osteria Nuova.

Architecture and Rural Surroundings

The Aste Taurine architectural complex is located at the seventh kilometre of Via Braccianese in Osteria Nuova. It is considered a 19th-century rural setting. The Monumento Naturale di Galeria Antica is located on Via Braccianese near Osteria Nuova. Etruscan remains and the ruins of the medieval city of Galeria have been preserved there. The area is currently not open for public use; therefore, take this status into account when planning your visit.

Osteria Nuova also includes green spaces in agricultural areas of Municipio Roma XV. This adds a distinctly rural aspect to the area’s religious and architectural themes. Piazza and Orientation on Site

The redesign of Piazza Osteria Nuova included new paved areas, play equipment on impact-absorbing flooring, planted flowerbeds, a wooden pergola and benches. The renewal plan for Osteria Nuova also provided for a continuous and safer pedestrian route connecting existing pavements and new pedestrian crossings. In addition, bus stops were planned on both sides of Via Anguillarese.

At the junction of Via Anguillarese and Via Braccianense, the same renewal plan provided for a roundabout with a diameter of approximately 40 metres.

Live Music in Rome

Another cultural facet is CrossRoads Live Club. It offers live music and performances by national and international artists. The club is a versatile concert venue in Rome and was founded in October 2008. As an independent venue, it forms part of the cultural points of reference in the wider surrounding area.
