Historic center and religious history

The historic center of Gerano was established between the 9th and 10th centuries. For visitors interested in culture, this dating provides a clear link to the town’s early history and serves as the starting point for further historical references in the town.

The Chiesa di San Lorenzo Martire near Porta Amato dates back to around the year 1000. Gerano’s religious history therefore reaches back to an era connected to the period when the center was established.

Below Gerano, in the plain, the Chiesa di Sant’Anatolia was founded in the 6th century by Pope Gregory the Great.

Museums offering unusual perspectives

The Museo dell’Infiorata documents Gerano’s approximately 300-year-old tradition of flower carpets through photographs, tools and historical documents. Both the craft practice and its visual and written records are therefore at the heart of the museum.

The Museo delle Antiche Scatole di Latta in Gerano is Italy’s first museum dedicated to tin cans. This unusual collection focus broadens the view of everyday culture beyond churches and local history.

Mountains, chestnut forests and cycling routes

On July 10, the celebration of Sant’Anatolia combines a religious ritual with an agricultural and craft fair.
