Golf with a Design History

The golf course of the Marina Velka Golf Club was created in the late 1960s based on a design by Rodolfo Russo as a 9-hole par-3 course with double tees, and was redeveloped by Ugo Grappasonni in the 1980s. The Marina Velka Golf Club is a 9-hole par-3 course, while Marina Velca Pian di Spille is a 9-hole course with par 35; both facilities have double tees.

For a single round, the number of holes and the par value are the most important key facts about the respective course. The third hole is considered one of the most challenging and spectacular holes on the course. One hole of the Marina Velka Golf Club was laid out near ancient Etruscan tombs that were discovered there by chance.

Residential Development as a Distinct Local Landmark

The built history includes the Marina Velca residential complex on Via dei Tarquiniensi. It was developed in 1972–1973 as public housing according to plans by Piero Sartogo. Its layout is organized around a courtyard: the units are positioned along four sides of a square, with one corner left open. The three remaining corners are articulated by 45-degree cuts spanning the entire height of the building; they enable a physical and visual connection to the inner courtyard. The open corner interrupts the square ground plan, while the three remaining corners are structured by cuts.

Typical Mediterranean maquis grows along the coast of Tarquinia, with strawberry trees, myrtle, rosemary, juniper, oleasters, broom, oleander, oaks, holm oaks and pine trees.
