Historic Townscape and Villa Negrotto Cambiaso

In the center of Arenzano, historic palazzi preserve typical details of Ligurian architecture. Visible elements include old sundials, terracotta mascarons, noble coats of arms and wayside shrine niches. On the hill, there is an opportunity to take a walk and, in particular, visit the Torre dei Saraceni. The Torre dei Saraceni is considered Arenzano’s only surviving ancient monument. In 1558, Marchese Tobia Pallavicino acquired the extensive Villa Negrotto Cambiaso estate and had a villa built there around an already existing tower.

Sanctuary and Two-Hour Guided Tour

The Santuario di Gesù Bambino di Praga is a basilica with a Latin-cross floor plan and a single nave. Free guided tours may include a Mass, explanations of the basilica, an artistic nativity scene, a missionary exhibition, terraces with succulents and views of the gulf; they last two hours. This tour can therefore be scheduled as a separate time block when planning the day, combining religious, artistic and horticultural stops.

Greenhouse and Gardens

Parco di Villa Negrotto Cambiaso is home to a Liberty-style greenhouse built from glass and iron in 1931. The same park is also home to plant species that are unusual or even rare in Liguria. These include bald cypress, Erythrina cristagalli, loquat yew, the Elegans variety of Japanese cedar and giant thuja. Villa Figoli des Geneys has an extensive garden with avenues, palms, evergreen plants and magnolias.

Beigua Geopark and Hiking Route

Arenzano is part of the Beigua UNESCO Global Geopark. The geopark encompasses a spectacular mountain landscape above the sea, with 26 kilometers of mountain ridges, and is one of the areas in Liguria with particularly high geo- and biodiversity. For experienced hikers, the Arenzano–Curlo–Passo della Gava–Passo del Faiallo route is classified EE. It is 9 km long and takes 3 hours and 45 minutes. The route passes through Arenzano, Curlo, Passo della Gava and Passo del Faiallo. With this length and duration, it requires a fixed time frame; the EE classification is intended for experienced hikers.

Diving and Kayaking on the Coast

When diving off Arenzano, you can explore the Haven, which is considered the largest wreck in the Mediterranean that can be visited. The coast of Arenzano offers appealing kayaking routes for exploring the coastline. When planning the day, the two activities can be considered separately: diving focuses on the Haven, while kayaking focuses on the coastal route.

Marina in the Bay
