Sanguineto: Monte Telegrafo, Trails and Church Hill

In Sanguineto, historical traces meet trails through hilly and coastal landscapes. The first known record of the place Sanguineto dates back to 1059. In and around Sanguineto, trails lead to Monte Telegrafo, Monte Cucco, Monte Anchetta and Montallegro. Historical traces on Sanguineto Hill

The church complex with the Church of Sant’Antonino martire stands on Sanguineto Hill. The forecourt of the complex can be reached via a staircase branching off the public road Via Sanguineto. At the end of the 1990s, an antique niche portal with an oil painting of the Mysteries of the Rosary, Saint Dominic and Saint Catherine of Siena was stolen from the church by unknown persons.

Monte Telegrafo: Coast and Apennines

The Monte Telegrafo loop trail takes approximately 210 minutes, is 9.2 km long, has 380 m of ascent and is rated T/E. For the complete Monte Telegrafo loop trail, planning the hiking day involves not only the walking time but also 9.2 kilometres and 380 metres of ascent.

The route leads to Monte Cucco, where a Napoleonic telegraph once stood.

After the stone bridge, the loop trail continues through the forest between houses and terraces to Località Costa on the Sanguineto ridge. It also descends towards the sea and offers views of the coast and the first Apennine range.

The Trail to Montallegro

The trail to Montallegro leads behind the hamlets of Sanguineto and Campodonico to Monte Anchetta. Up to Anchetta, it passes through mixed woodland and Mediterranean maquis; at the same time, it offers views of the sea and the Apennines.

The trail takes 120 minutes to Anchetta and 240 minutes to Montallegro; its maximum length is 4.5 km, the ascent is 530 m and the difficulty is rated T/E. The longer route to Montallegro follows the same connection as the section to Anchetta and continues beyond this destination. For the trail to Montallegro, planning the day involves not only the 240 minutes but also 4.5 kilometres and 530 metres of ascent.

Loop Trail of the Three Hamlets

The loop trail of the three hamlets (Maxena–Sanguineto–Campodonico) follows old connecting paths used by the residents of the hamlets of Maxena, Sanguineto and Campodonico. Across terraced areas and along a beautiful mule track, the route reaches Sanguineto and its church.
