Stella Maris: Procession and Light on the Water

The Stella Maris event has its origins in the 15th century and always takes place on the first Sunday in August. During the morning procession, the rowing boat Dragun takes the priest to the Stella Maris altar at Punta Chiappa, followed by decorated boats. In the evening, floating biodegradable lights are placed in the water while the Dragun, accompanied by canoes, passes by in a display of light and music.

Boat Trip Along the Protected Coastline

A boat trip from Camogli takes you to Punta Chiappa and onward to the Bay of San Fruttuoso. Punta Chiappa marks the outermost section of the Portofino Marine Protected Area.

A Culinary Event in May

On the second Sunday in May, several hundredweight of fish are fried in a stainless-steel pan measuring 3.8 meters in diameter, with a 6-meter-long handle, a weight of 2.8 tons and a capacity of 2,000 liters, and distributed free of charge to thousands of guests. Alongside the August Stella Maris event, a fixed date in May is therefore also one of the town’s defining occasions. The May event can be planned independently of the August celebration as a separate seasonal reason to travel to Camogli.
