Bossico: Discover hiking trails, the high plateau and Italian culture

Bossico combines a high plateau with trails through meadows and forests, historic religious buildings and a local specialty. This gives you a destination that you can explore according to your interests, whether on foot, by mountain bike, while discovering its culture or in the peaceful surroundings of the forest.

Hiking between meadows and forests

The Bossico high plateau has 50 kilometers of trails through meadows and forests, with views of Lake Iseo. Sentiero 553 begins in the higher part of Bossico at an elevation of 875 m and leads across the meadows of Onìt (Onito). In spring, buttercups, daisies and forget-me-nots are among the flowers that bloom there.

The Sette Colli circular trail begins and ends in Località Pila at car park 1 and offers views of Lake Iseo and Monte Isola. The Pozza d’Ast route includes a 2.5 km linear variant that climbs from 1,030 m to 1,290 m. When visibility is clear, this variant reaches a high plateau with views of the River Po and the Apennines.

Churches, chapels and villas

The historic villas on the Bossico high plateau were built by the bourgeoisie in the 19th century. The parish church of Santi Pietro e Paolo at the entrance to Bossico probably dates from around 1500. The San Rocco Chapel at the end of Via Bonomelli, just beyond the old washhouse, also dates from around 1500.

At Colle San Fermo stands a chapel dating from 1902. Above the altar is a fresco depicting Saint Fermo, the Madonna and various domestic animals. In a forest clearing, Il Respiro del Bosco includes a meditation area with an information board and hammocks.

Cycling and Nordic walking

For active days, the Percorso Rosso MTB circuit offers an easy to moderately difficult profile, with sections on single tracks, gravel roads and technically demanding descents. The Percorso Nero MTB circuit begins and ends at the Pro Loco office at Via Giardini 1. The Bossico–Ceratello Nordic walking route begins at Piazza S. Pietro, Bossico’s main square.

A local specialty and a July event

The matured “Bossico stagionato” cheese is aged for 7 to 10 months and produced according to specific production regulations. Every year in July, on the second or third weekend of the month, Pozza d’Ast hosts a festival organized by the Gruppo Alpini di Bossico.

Getting there and planning the right stay

Regular bus services run from Bergamo railway station and Lake Iseo to Bossico. If you choose a hotel or other accommodation in Bossico, you can organize your days around the different starting points and route profiles: from the circular trail starting at Località Pila and the cycling circuit at Via Giardini 1 to Nordic walking from Piazza S.
