Nembro between whetstone craftsmanship, churches and nature

Nembro appeals to travellers who want to discover Italian places through tangible traces of craftsmanship, history, sacred art and landscape. The range extends from whetstone extraction and mining history to historic churches and a permanent work of art distributed along the Nembro-Lonno section of the Via delle Sorelle. Craftsmanship and mining history

The MUPIC – Museo delle Pietre Coti della Valle Seriana in Nembro is dedicated to the local tradition of extracting and working whetstones. These were used to sharpen agricultural tools such as hay mowers. The museum also presents the stages of extraction, processing and marketing. This means that the focus is not only on a craft, but also on the journey of a material from extraction to distribution.

The Museo della Miniera in Nembro was reconstructed to resemble the entrance to a mine and displays historical evidence such as tools, materials, documents and photographs. Al Tuo Passo is a permanent work of art distributed along the Nembro-Lonno section of the Via delle Sorelle.

Historical and sacred heritage

In Borgo, the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta features remains dating from the 5th or 6th century AD as well as a later medieval structure. After years of deterioration, the church was restored in 2000. At the Santuario della Madonna dello Zuccarello, a fresco depicts the Madonna with the dead Christ; it was ceremonially crowned in 1920. Nature between wetland and river

Oasi Saletti is a phytoremediation lake of approximately 6,000 m² within a wetland of natural scientific interest covering approximately 12,500 m² in total. It is considered a wetland of considerable natural scientific importance, with great plant and animal biodiversity. School pupils, students and interested visitors have the opportunity there to observe spontaneously developing ecological balances and new biocoenoses. For nature-focused days, the development of a diverse habitat is therefore the central theme.

The cycle and footpath between Gavarno and Nembro connects the hamlet of Gavarno with Nembro's larger centre. The new Lungoserio is an equipped leisure area and an open-air museum offering contact with the river.
