Brembilla: Hiking, Climbing and History in Val Brembilla

Hiking and culture can be discovered in Brembilla through various destinations and themes. These include Falesia Monte Corno, trails in Val Brembilla, churches, historic fountains and traces of rural life.

Hiking from Cavaglia and Cadelfoglia

Falesia Monte Corno can be reached via trail 596 in the direction of Monte Corno–Castello Regina. The access begins at the small piazza in Cavaglia in Val Brembilla. The Anello della regina circular hike also starts in Cavaglia. Another starting point is Cadelfoglia on Via Gervasoni: this is where the Brembilla–Blello–I Tre Faggi route in Val Brembilla begins. For a day of hiking in Brembilla, choosing between Cavaglia and Cadelfoglia is a first practical point of orientation, as the trails begin in different places there.

Falesia Monte Corno and I Tre Faggi

The first sector of Falesia Monte Corno comprises approximately 15 climbing routes. The climbing difficulties at Falesia Monte Corno range from 6a to 8a.

The route to I Tre Faggi ends at three centuries-old beech trees, which are among Italy’s monumental trees. The destination provides the hike with a distinctive natural highlight, while the route’s name also refers to the three trees.

Waterways and traces of work

Fountains and streams lie along the Valle delle Calchere hike. At the end of the descent, near the watercourse that drains the springs, the remains of several lime kilns come into view. Those who hike through the Valle delle Calchere combine the course of the water with a tangible example of lime processing at the end of the descent.

Church, village architecture and transhumance

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di Val Brembilla houses a nativity scene from the early 16th century as well as a painting by Carlo Ceresa. In the center of Catremerio, typical architectural elements of 16th- and 17th-century farmhouses can be seen: these include vaulted interiors (Silter), connecting wooden balconies, tiled roofs and votive chapels. Visitors interested in culture can look out for these architectural elements in the center of Catremerio.

The Museo della Transumanza has a multimedia room with eyewitness accounts of former rural life and the history of transhumance. A three-dimensional map shows the former routes between the mountain pastures and the lowlands. Objects from everyday rural life illustrate the former life on the mountain pastures and the routes taken by ancestors to the lowlands. The Museo della Transumanza can be visited by prior reservation through the Infopoint.
