Fiumenero: Mountain Trails, the Serio and Vibrant Village Culture

Fiumenero combines the river landscape of the Serio with historic churches, vibrant village culture and mountain trails leading into high-altitude landscapes. Between cultural impressions, natural pools and challenging routes, you will find a variety of options for an individually planned journey through the Italian mountains.

River and Valley Area

The Serio River flows through Fiumenero. The right-hand side of the valley includes the catchment area of the Torrente Nero.

Churches and Local Culture

At the entrance to the village stands the Chiesa di San Rocco, on the side facing the Serio River. The church was built in 1627–1628 by the local residents, out of devotion to Saint Roch and as a prayer for divine help against plague and famine. Its distinctive features include the exterior wall made of irregularly laid natural stone, known as opus incertum, and the regionally typical gabled slate roof.

The Chiesa di Sant’Antonio Abate in Fiumenero was consecrated on 4 July 1759. Inside is an original painting by Domenico Carpinoni (1566–1658) depicting Saints Sebastian and Roch. The Bivacco Aldo Frattini is considered emergency architecture and, at the same time, a micro-museum.

During “Il Presepe Vivente di Fiumenero”, old houses along the village streets open especially for the event; inside, visitors can see the Nativity and traditional crafts. Fiumenero also hosted the 16th edition of “Il Presepe Vivente di Fiumenero, La Natività e gli Antichi Mestieri”.

CAI Trail 227 into the Mountains

CAI Trail 227 to Rifugio Antonio Baroni al Brunone begins in the Fiumenero hamlet at an elevation of 790 metres. The route is 7 km long, involves 1,505 metres of ascent and takes approximately four hours uphill. Rifugio Antonio Baroni al Brunone is located at an elevation of 2,295 metres. On the way from Fiumenero to the rifugio, at an elevation of approximately 2,500 metres, CAI Trail 227 meets the Sentiero delle Orobie CAI 225 before the rifugio is reached. For CAI Trail 227 from Fiumenero to Rifugio Antonio Baroni al Brunone, distance, elevation gain and walking time should be considered together; the kilometre figure does not fully describe the ascent. The approximate duration applies to the uphill route, and the connection with CAI 225 lies before the rifugio.

Natural Pools and Water Experiences

You can reach the first natural pools of the Pozze naturali from Fiumenero via CAI Trail 227 after approximately 30 minutes on foot. The route to the Pozze naturali di Fiumenero also includes a 20-metre-long natural slide carved into the rock by the water.

In the Fiumenero area, the Torrente Nero features beautiful gorges that attract numerous canyoning enthusiasts in summer. Canyoning in Fiumenero is considered suitable for beginners; participation is intended to take place with the guidance of a professional mountain guide.
