Castione Della Presolana: Mountains, Trails and Historic Places

Castione della Presolana lies at the foot of the Presolana massif in the Bergamasque Prealps. The setting provides the scenic backdrop for a stay during which you can explore the mountains, history and trail planning together. Historic buildings, churches and traditional village layouts give the town several clearly recognisable facets.

Mountain Landscape and Trails

The summit of Presolana was first climbed in 1870 by Carlo Medici, Federico Frizzoni and Antonio Curò. Today, too, the mountain landscape is at the heart of many possible activities. The Borgo di Rusio is a starting point for numerous hiking trails, including the Via del Latte. Trails with varying degrees of difficulty lead out from the Valle dei Mulini. The Sentiero dell’orso is an easy, gently sloping circular trail that can also be walked with a pushchair. If you are travelling with a pushchair, this feature is particularly relevant when choosing a suitable route.

Practical Orientation on Site

For the Falesia di Giambi, there is a car park after approximately 100 metres, opposite a carpenter’s workshop. You can leave your car there and continue on foot. The approximate distance and the subsequent walk therefore form part of the guidance for this specific visit.

Historic Buildings and Village Landscapes

The old Palazzo del Comune in the historic centre of Castione della Presolana dates back to a building erected in the 16th century, which was extensively remodelled over the years. It currently houses the council chamber and the tourist office on the first floor. Next to the old Palazzo stands an old fountain bearing the coat of arms of the noble Bonghi family.

Rusio preserves its historic urban structure and recalls the rural hamlets of past centuries. In the centre of Rusio stands the small consecrated church of San Giacomo. It contains a gilded, polychrome wooden altar from the 17th century, originating from the Fantoni workshop. Here, the traditional village layout is combined with a clearly identifiable detail of craftsmanship.

In the centre of Dorga, the old and new parish churches stand almost directly next to each other. The Church of San Rocco dates from the 16th century and preserves several fragments of its former fresco decoration, which have since been transferred onto canvas. The old Church of the SS. Trinità is opened to the public only for cultural events or religious commemorative days. Public access is therefore limited to these occasions.

Local Festival in Bratto

The Pegher Festival in the village of Bratto is a folk festival inspired by rural life. It includes a parade with floats or allegorical groups, in which the sheep takes centre stage. A specific local tradition thus complements the landscape and cultural themes that you can discover in Castione della Presolana.
