Clanezzo between rivers, bridges and mountain valleys
Clanezzo between the Brembo, Imagna and the valleys
The character of Clanezzo is shaped by rivers, bridges and its location at the foot of Monte Ubione. Ubiale Clanezzo lies at the confluence of the Brembo and Imagna rivers and at the same time at the entrance to the Brembilla, Imagna and Brembana valleys. For orientation, three specific landscape features are therefore central: the two rivers, Monte Ubione and the valleys that open up from here. This combination of a waterscape and mountain scenery provides the setting for the historic buildings and paths around the town.
Bridges with a history of their own
The Ponte che balla is 75 metres long and can still be crossed on foot. When you cross it, you reach the opposite bank of the Brembo and can continue walking along the river. In this way, the bridge combines a distinctive structure with a tangible experience by the water, without limiting your view of the river to a distant perspective.
Its origins also make the Ponte che balla noteworthy: it was built in 1878 based on the model of Tibetan bridges. Ubiale Clanezzo is also home to the medieval single-arch stone bridge Ponte Attone. Both names are therefore firmly established historical reference points when exploring the architectural history of this landscape.
Castello di Clanezzo and Il Maglio
Castello di Clanezzo was transformed from a military fortress into a stately residence. Today, it serves as a historic residence and hosts events, weddings, ceremonies and tours. For visitors interested in culture, the focus here is not only on the architecture but also on the transformation from a defensive complex into a prestigious residence.
Il Maglio stands on the Imagna stream at the foot of Castello di Clanezzo. The building is one of the oldest structures in the area. In the past, Il Maglio forged weapons for the Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia. Its historic connection to the Venetian Republic gives this place a distinct sense of historical depth and complements the story of the bridges and the castle with a former craft tradition.
Paths through forests and river valleys
Sentiero 571 reaches Clanezzo by descending from Monte Ubione towards the Clanezzo cemetery. The Ciclabile della Valle Imagna covers 3.8 kilometres; a cycling time of 15 minutes is indicated. Its route passes through forests between Monte Ubione and the Imagna stream. Along the way there are springs and small streams, so in addition to the route length, the landscape itself is an important part of this route.
Which location suits your accommodation plans
When planning your accommodation in Clanezzo, you can use the different focal points of the town as a guide: the Ponte che balla and the Brembo for walks by the river, Castello di Clanezzo, Ponte Attone and Il Maglio for historical impressions, or the paths between Monte Ubione and the Imagna stream for a day shaped by the landscape. This makes it possible to align your choice of accommodation with the interests you would particularly like to explore during your stay.
