Dello Between Festival Tradition and Sacred History

Dello combines a strong ecclesiastical heritage with a recurring autumn festival. The Sagra del Fungo Chiodino is a recurring autumn festival in Dello and provides a seasonal highlight in local cultural life. This creates a destination for you whose special features are visible not only in individual buildings, but also in religious traditions and festive occasions.

Romanesque Forms and Rural Surroundings

In Corticelle Pieve, the Chiesa - Pieve “Madonna della Formigola” stands in open countryside and is surrounded by a few rustic buildings. The present building was constructed in the 14th to 15th century in Lombard-Romanesque forms, with three naves.

Sanctuaries with Their Own Imagery

The Santuario “Madonna della Spiga” di Quinzanello preserves original Romanesque structures from the 13th century in its decorated, semicircular brick apse. A canvas in the sanctuary depicts the legendary apparition of the Virgin Mary holding ears of grain in her hands. The name “Madonna della Spiga” may be connected with the tradition of gathering in the sanctuary in May and on the second Sunday after Pentecost to pray for the protection of the harvest.

Other churches also contribute to this rich picture. The Chiesa Parrocchiale “S. Lorenzo” di Quinzanello has a main altar from the 18th century, dated 1777. Its two side altars, dedicated to the Last Supper and the Rosary, come from the former church of S. Clemente in Brescia and were acquired in 1839.

Frescoes, Earlier Building Phases and Baroque Forms

The Chiesa di S.Pietro (S.Rocco) di Dello dates back to the 11th to 12th century and is richly decorated with 15th-century frescoes. Following initial consolidation and repair work, it was extensively restored; the frescoes were also restored in the process. The feast of Saint Peter Martyr at the Chiesa di S.Pietro (S.Rocco) is celebrated in Dello on the third Sunday in October; a special celebration takes place there every three years. In Boldeniga, the existence of a church dedicated to Saint Zeno has been documented since at least 1410. The presbytery of the Chiesa Parrocchiale “S. Zenone” di Boldeniga presumably contains a small painting attributed to the school of Moretto.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale “S. Giacomo” di Corticelle Pieve has the appearance of a 17th-century Baroque parish church. Remains of 15th-century frescoes were found in the chapel adjoining its bell tower.
