Piancogno between Churches, Mountains and Vineyards

Piamborno combines sacred architecture with historic building forms and connections to the surrounding landscape. The town features both prominent churches and a villa with unusual architectural influences.

Churches and Historic Building Forms in Piamborno

The Parrocchia “S. Famiglia e S. Vittore” in Piamborno has an unfinished façade made of exposed masonry. Its original design was created by the architect Fortunato Canevali. The floor plan is also one of the defining features of this sacred building: it has the shape of a Latin cross with a single nave.

The Chiesetta di San Filippo Neri combines several distinctive architectural details. Its bell tower dates from the 17th century. There is also a strongly projecting extension from the 19th century, which contains the stone entrance portal to the church interior. Special solutions are available for people with disabilities to enable access. The dated parts of the Chiesetta range from the 17th to the 19th century. This building therefore allows historical elements and an explicitly available access solution to be considered together.

Piamborno is also home to Villa Gheza. The building was constructed in 1920 and has a distinctive tower. The distinctive tower is decorated with forms inspired by the Arab and Spanish worlds, creating an architectural accent different from the churches of Piamborno. The building from 1920 dates from after the foundation of the sanctuary in 1467.
