Drugolo combines a historic village, an exceptionally well-preserved castle and paths through the pre-Alpine hills. As a result, cultural and historical themes meet walks and cycling tours here. The village dates back to the 10th century and may have Lombard origins. This gives you different starting points for planning your trip to Drugolo: you can explore historic sites or discover the landscape along selected routes.

On Foot from Padenghe to Drugolo

The walking route from Padenghe Castle to Drugolo takes about two hours. It is accessible to everyone and presents only a few difficulties. The route follows unpaved paths, paved sections and forest trails. Along the way, the landscape alternates between wooded areas with typical tree species of the pre-Alpine hills, vineyards, olive groves, barley fields and sunflower fields. The different surfaces and approximate duration make the walk a clearly defined way to connect Drugolo with its surrounding area. With an approximate walking time of two hours, the changes between paved, unpaved and wooded sections can be incorporated into your daily itinerary.

Castle and Capuchin Monastery

Castello di Drugolo is known for its exceptional state of preservation. The current owners do not permit visits, so the building cannot be planned as an accessible sightseeing destination.

The former Capuchin monastery is located on a hill overlooking Lake Garda in the village of Drugolo, within the municipality of Lonato, on the border with Bedizzole and near the Castello di Drugolo of the same name. A walk through the hills of Drugolo leads to the former property of the Capuchin monastery. Its location combines views of Lake Garda with the historical relationship between the village, the hills and the former monastic estate.

The Chiesetta dei Morti della Selva

The Chiesetta dei Morti della Selva stands north of Drugolo. Work carried out in the 18th century gave the church its present appearance. In 2013, it was reconsecrated as an Orthodox monastery. Sentiero 801 runs along enclosing walls.

Cycling Routes through the Landscape

There are also cycling routes of different lengths for exploring the area. The Lonato–Padenghe–Lonato cycling route is 13 kilometres long and leads via Via Cuccagna to Castello di Drugolo. Via Cuccagna soon becomes an unpaved path. Another route, the Bedizzole–Lonato–Valtenesi cycling route, is 30 kilometres long. The “Da Lonato a Montichiari” cycling tour passes through a landscape shaped by gentle moraine hills, with forests, vineyards and olive groves. The different route lengths help you compare the excursions according to the desired scope.
