Erbusco Between History and Wine Country

Erbusco presents Franciacorta not only as a wine region, but also as a place with a rich historical fabric. If you would like to combine culture with peaceful trails, the main points of interest range from the castle and historic buildings to the Anello Verde and Anello Blu loop trails. The individual experiences remain clearly distinct: the architecture tells the story of several centuries, while the trails place the landscape and views at the forefront.

History and Architecture in Erbusco

Erbusco Castle is possibly the oldest castle in Franciacorta and partially retains its medieval structure. The former Convento di San Bernardino preserves an ancient 15th-century portico, as well as traces of the former church from the same century. During restoration, frescoes dating from the 15th century to the first decades of the 16th century were also uncovered there. Palazzo Lechi, formerly Martinengo, dates from the second half of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century; later alterations continued into the 19th century.

Frescoes, Villas, and Roman Traces

The Pieve Romanica di Santa Maria Maggiore preserves frescoes from different periods inside. These include “Madonna and Child” and “The Annunciation,” attributed to the school of Gentile da Fabriano. Roman remains are found particularly in the Villa district of Erbusco. Villa Lechi – also known as Palazzo Lechi or Palazzo Lechi già Martinengo – is one of the most significant examples of a Renaissance villa in the Brescia area. The villa has a horseshoe-shaped floor plan and an Italian garden.

Loop Trails Through Franciacorta

For a shorter, easy-to-plan loop, the Anello Verde is 4.3 km long and takes 1 hour and 10 minutes. The loop is easy, accessible year-round, and runs mostly on level ground over paved surfaces. This allows distance, duration, and trail conditions to be taken directly into account when planning your day.

The Anello Blu offers a different landscape focus: it leads through the gentle hills of Franciacorta, past well-maintained vineyards and through peaceful scenery. In clear conditions, the Anello Verde offers panoramic views reaching as far as the snow-capped peaks of Piedmont.

To get there, Erbusco can be reached by bus line LS025 from Brescia, as well as by bus line LS003 from Chiari or Iseo. This allows you to plan the cultural destinations and the journey separately.

The Carnevale di Erbusco has taken place since 1954 and includes a traditional parade with allegorical floats every year on Shrove Tuesday.
