Magasa: Mountain Village with Culture, Nature and Stargazing

Magasa is a mountain village at an altitude of 976 metres, surrounded by green landscapes. The area is rich in flora and fauna and is a natural oasis within the Parco Alto Garda Bresciano.

Cima Rest: Nature and Outdoor Activities

Cima Rest is situated in a natural setting at an altitude of 1,200 metres, making it higher than Magasa. There are opportunities for trekking and mountain biking. Anyone planning one of these activities should assign it to the higher-lying area of Cima Rest. The altitude is therefore a concrete part of the day’s planning in the mountain landscape.

Church of Sant’Antonio Abate in the Historic Centre

In the historic centre of Magasa, the portico on the eastern side of the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate extends over the valley. The church has a 35-metre-high granite bell tower, built in 1768. Its high altar features an altarpiece created by the Brescian painter Francesco Savanni in 1763. The church floor is red and yellow and made of ammonitic stone. This stone comes from the “Marmer” quarries on Monte Denervo.

Museum in the Hamlet of Cima Rest

In the hamlet of Cima Rest, the Museo Etnografico della Valvestino is housed in a characteristic barn. Its exhibition is divided into three areas: a hayloft on the upper floor, a stable in the basement and a cheese-making room on the ground floor. The collection mainly comprises agricultural, craft and dairy-farming tools from the Valvestino area. The museum’s thematic focus therefore ranges from agriculture and crafts to dairy farming.

Ecomuseo Trails and the Night Sky

The Ecomuseo della Valvestino is crossed by numerous trails of scenic and historical significance. They connect lake areas across mountain ridges and pass former sites of battles from the First World War. They offer wide-ranging views.

At the Cima Rest Observatory in Magasa, the “Serate a Lume di Stella” take place every year from May to October. The event includes a theoretical introduction by an educator, followed by observations of the sky through a telescope. From the chapel, the observatory can be reached after a walk of approximately 20 minutes. For the evening of the event, this route should be planned as a separate section before the observation.

Tombea and the Flavours of Valvestino

Tombea is part of Magasa’s local character. The cheese is produced from May to September using raw milk from Bruna-Alpina cattle. It is made exclusively with milk from cows kept on the alpine pastures and in the stables in the area around the mountain of the same name. Tombea is a Slow Food Presidio. The production period, cattle breed and origin of the milk are closely connected with the area surrounding the mountain.
