Pertica Alta combines historic buildings with landscapes, local customs and the history of iron processing.
The distinctive character of the area lies in the combination of sacred architecture, craft history and open landscapes. You can therefore structure your visit thematically around architectural forms, townscapes and paths.
Architecture and Historical Traces
The Santuario di S. Andrea o dei Morti di Barbaine is a 14th-century building. Its south wall features splayed Romanesque lancet windows. The bell tower has pointed-arch windows. During a tour, the window forms on the south wall and bell tower can be viewed separately.
The Oratorio di San Bernardo is located along the historic route that led from the Pertiche to Nozza. Its location therefore points to a traditional route between the Pertiche and Nozza.
Livemmo is also home to the Forno Fusorio di Livemmo, a facility dating from the second half of the 16th century. It was initially used for the first stage of iron processing and later exclusively for melting iron waste. The Santuario is older than the Forno Fusorio di Livemmo.
Belprato and Local Traditions
Belprato can be visited freely. Visitors can choose their own tour or preferred route. The “Belprato Paese Dipinto” project began in 2012 and aimed to bring local and other artists to Belprato every August. They were to leave an artistic contribution on the walls of the village houses. During a tour of Belprato, these house walls can be directly incorporated into the visit to the village. The painted house walls thus turn Belprato into a village tour where several artistic contributions can be discovered one after another.
The Carnevale di Livemmo begins on Saturday afternoon with a procession of masks through the village streets. On Sunday, it continues with a performance featuring the three traditional double masks “la vècia dal val”, “l'omasì del zerlo” and “il doppio”.
Paths and Seasonal Dates
The Forno Fusorio can be reached via a mule track descending from the Livemmo district, with an elevation difference of 300 metres. When planning your own route, you can take the descent and the 300 metres of elevation change into account directly. Anyone visiting the Forno Fusorio can therefore plan this section of the route as a separate part of the day.
During the TRANSUMANZA, visitors can accompany the herd as it travels up to and down from the alpine pastures of Pertica Alta, at an altitude of 1,500 metres, in June and September. Scheduling the visit therefore involves choosing a date in one of these two months.
Plateau and Waterfalls in the Surrounding Area
Campo di Nasso is a broad plateau at an altitude of approximately 1,500 metres, between sky and forests in the quiet valleys of Pertica Alta. The open high plateau therefore lies within the landscape of the quiet valleys.
The waterfalls Cascata del Pisot and Pos de l'acqua, as well as the summit of Corna Blacca, are also located in the area around Pertica Alta. The two waterfalls and the summit add to the landscape highlights around Pertica Alta. Together with Campo di Nasso, they create a succession of open plateau, forests, waterfalls and a summit destination.
