Ome is a destination for travellers who want to combine Italian history, nature and the everyday life of a place. Art, History and Craftsmanship in Ome

The Santuario della Madonna dell’Avello preserves a valuable fresco cycle from the first half of the 16th century, dated to the years 1510 to 1534. It features 159 full-length depictions of Madonnas and saints, regarded as ex votos expressing popular devotion. The church of San Michele dates back to the Romanesque period in its original construction. It is designed as a single-nave Lombard church and preserves artistic works inside.

The Casa Museo Pietro Malossi houses an extensive and diverse collection of cultural artefacts. The objects on display include weapons, furniture, prints and paintings. The Maglio Averoldi offers another perspective on local history: the 15th-century smithy still has a functioning waterwheel. The districts of Ome also contribute to its historic character, as they contain various stone houses with a distinctly medieval character.

Botanical Gardens and Special Trees

The Orto Botanico delle Conifere preserves 82 shrub species. Each species is represented by at least two specimens. In addition, the garden works to conserve endangered plants and carries out projects to reintroduce endangered species into the wild.

The Orto Botanico delle Querce is home to more than 135 plant species from around the world. The Boschetto dei Sopravvissuti contains second- and third-generation trees grown from seeds of specimens that survived the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Diospyros kaki is among them.

The Giardino Giapponese includes cherry trees, elegant paths, a torii gate, a fountain for ritual purification and an incense burner. The various garden areas give your stay in Ome a botanical and at the same time cultural focus.

Hiking, Market and Local Orientation

The Antica Strada Valeriana runs through Ome and can be accessed from the Borgo del Maglio. At weekends from March to November, demonstrations of ironworking can also be seen in the Borgo del Maglio. This allows outdoor activity and an insight into traditional craftsmanship to be combined without separating the local themes from one another.

Ome’s weekly market takes place every Tuesday from 08:00 to 12:00 on Piazza Aldo Moro. For travel and local orientation, Ome is served by FNMA bus route F27 between Iseo and Brescia.
