Historic Sites and Cultural Insights

Villa Brunati was built at the end of the 16th century by Monsignor Giacomo Roveglio as a holiday residence on an existing medieval rural building. The Church of San Biagio in Rivoltella dates from the early 15th century.

The Museo XX secolo opened in 2018. It serves the museum preservation, as well as the sociocultural and tourist development, of the area. The collection comprises objects from the period of the First World War to around 1960. In addition, the museum holds temporary exhibitions every year featuring thematically consistent material.

The Parco della Torre includes the tower of the former castle of Rivoltella. The Chiesetta di San Zeno is also known as the Antica Pieve di Rivoltella and dates from the 16th century. The church contains frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries; traces from the 16th century are visible on its bell tower and parts of its surrounding walls.

Museums and Destinations in the Surrounding Area

In the immediate vicinity of Rivoltella are the Museo Civico Archeologico “Giovanni Rambotti”, the Museo della Battaglia di Solferino e San Martino and the Fondazione Ugo da Como, each a museum. The Castello Scaligero, a castle, is also located nearby. The cultural surroundings therefore range from archaeological and historical topics to fortified architecture.

Cycling and Walking by the Lake

The “Lungolago - Desenzano e Rivoltella” cycle route is 8 km long and runs along the lakeshore from the boundary area with Lonato to the boundary area with Sirmione. A lakeside route from Desenzano to Sirmione passes through Rivoltella and runs there along Viale Francesco Agello. A lakeside walking path leads to Desenzano. For planning purposes, this means that a cycling route, a lakeside connection and a walking path can be considered separately.

Other destinations around Rivoltella include the Giardini Marinai d'Italia, a garden, and Parco Pastore, a park. In the wider regional area are Parco Natura Viva, a zoo, and Isola di Garda, an island. These different landscapes and recreational areas complement the historic stops with garden, park, island and wildlife themes.

A Distinctive Local Touch

The history of Lugana sparkling wine is also part of the local character. At the end of the 19th century, industrialists from Champagne attempted to establish a winery in Rivoltella for producing Lugana sparkling wine using the traditional method, modelled on Champagne.
