Discover Sulzano on Lake Iseo
Sulzano combines the historic atmosphere of a lakeside promenade with views of Lake Iseo and Monte Isola. Between old villas and gardens, small vistas open up towards the lake and island. The municipal swimming area is also located on Via Cadorna. For days by the water, Sulzano has three public beaches: Lido Le Palafitte, the municipal beach on Via Cadorna and Spiaggia Carini.
Churches, ridges and local traditions
One of the notable cultural sites is the Santuario di Santa Maria del Giogo. The sanctuary dates from the 15th century and stands on a panoramic ridge that slopes down southwards from Punta Almana. From there, it offers panoramic views of Val Trompia and Lake Iseo. The Chiesa di San Fermo stands on a hill in the hamlet of Gazzane di Sulzano and is located along the ancient Via Valeriana. At the church of the same name in Sulzano, on Via Gazzane, the Associazione Culturale San Fermo organises the Festa di San Fermo every year.
The parish church of Chiesa di San Giorgio Martire is also part of the townscape. It was built in 1726 and has a façade divided into two registers, with rounded corners. The three sites represent different historical points of reference and spatial settings: a sanctuary on the ridge, a church along the ancient road and a prominent place of worship in the town.
Nature experiences between forest and lake
The Strada delle Api is a nature trail with information boards and an educational apiary. It explains bees, pollinating Apoidea and the protection of bees. Along the Strada delle Api, on Via Nistisino, there is a picnic area with tables, benches and a barbecue; there are no toilets there. A walk of around 30 minutes through the forest leads to the Cascata del Petoi. There is a small Madonna shrine at the waterfall.
Monte Isola, boat trips and sailing
The Giro delle tre isole boat trip to the islands of S. Paolo, Monte Isola and Loreto departs from Sulzano's landing stage. Today, Sulzano is the most suitable port for reaching Monte Isola, with very frequent connections during the day and at night. The Associazione Nautica Sebina is located on the picturesque gulf on the border with Pilzone di Iseo, formed by the Montecolo peninsula. Sailing is possible there, making Sulzano a point of reference for sailing enthusiasts.
Trails of varying difficulty
The Antica Strada Valeriana hiking trail begins in Sulzano. From here, the historic route offers two options: an easy, short 5 km walk southwards and a more demanding 20 km hike northwards. These different distances make the route interesting for consciously planning your daily itinerary, without equating the two options.
Getting there and finding your way around
Sulzano railway station is located in the historic centre and is a three-minute walk from the landing stage. Sulzano is served by the Brescia–Iseo–Edolo regional railway line. The Infopoint Sulzano is also located near the landing stage. It provides tourist information as well as material on excursions, cycle routes and trekking tours.
