Castelmarte among Churches, Trails and Mountains

Castelmarte combines a clearly defined local history with church art, hiking trails and destinations in the surrounding landscape. In antiquity, Castelmarte was a fortress built as part of the militarisation of the Lario basin; at the same time, the town has clearly Roman origins. This provides several specific starting points for planning your trip: sacred art, local history, hiking, as well as museums and mountains in the surrounding area.

Churches and Historical Traces

The Chiesa di San Rocco is located on the edge of Castelmarte’s settlement, beside the road leading to the town centre. It contains frescoes depicting San Lucio, the Madonna and Child, San Rocco, San Sebastiano, the Crucifixion and the Annunciation. The frescoes are attributed to the painter Lazzaro Gerosa.

The complex of the Chiesa di S. Giovanni Evangelista comprises the church and its bell tower. In the Chiesa di San Giovanni, sculptural fragments are used as reused building material. In Castelmarte, you can therefore encounter sacred buildings with different historical and artistic associations.
