Historic buildings, traces of silk production, parkland and recurring events give Sulbiate several different reasons to visit. If you are considering the town for a trip to Italy, you can choose your own focus among architecture, sacred art, trails and local festivals.

Historic Buildings and Sacred Art

Castello Lampugnani was built in 1452 by the Milanese merchant Paolo Lampugnani and comprises two courtyards. Palazzo Baraggia was probably built by the Figini family in the 16th century. On the west side of the courtyard of Palazzo Baraggia, there is an electric mill considered an example of industrial archaeology.

La Filanda was built in 1923 and became the headquarters of the «Società Anonima Setificio di Sulbiate Brianza» in 1925. The silk spinning mill at La Filanda had 80 fully operational basins. Thus, alongside its representative architecture, the history of silk production is also a focal point of a stay in Sulbiate.

The Chiesa di S. Ambrogio dates back to the 11th century and was part of a Benedictine convent dedicated to Sant'Ambrogio. Its bell tower dates from the 14th century and is built entirely of bricks. Ambrogio also preserves a Romanesque architectural testimony of the region.

The Chiesa di S. Antonino houses «La Madonna del Suffragio», a painting from the end of the 18th century by Stefano Maria Legnani. The church also has an organ created in 1820 by Eugenio Biroldi and Luigi Maroni. The Cappelletta della Madonna Addolorata houses a canvas painting of the Mater Dolorosa, a high-quality 17th-century work by an unknown Lombard painter.

The Casa da nobile at Via Don Mario Ciceri 3 is arranged around a tower and a central courtyard. Villa Beretta has been included in the thematic route «Ville gentilizie della provincia di Monza e Brianza».

Parkland and Trails

The Parco Agricolo Nord Est is a local park of supra-municipal interest that protects natural features, ecological connections and agricultural values. The local black locust forests also contain chestnut and oak trees; they are a remnant of the large forest heath that once shaped the landscape.

The Parco Agricolo Nord Est hiking trail portal makes the park's entire trail network accessible on computers and smartphones. It shows the route of a 107-kilometre trail network and offers downloadable route maps in PDF format as well as tracks in GPX and KML formats. This gives you a clear basis for comparing different trail lengths and routes before setting out.

A connection leads from Sulbiate, the La Cà district, to Vimercate, the Ruginello district, and is more than one kilometre long. Route 6 leads from Sulbiate via Mezzago to Cornate d’Adda.

Events and Local Character

The Camminata Sulbiatese is an annual recreational hiking event in Sulbiate. Sulbeer is a recurring summer event in Sulbiate featuring craft beer and food. Sulbiate also hosts a weekly market and events. In this way, activities, culinary themes and market life complement the town's historical and scenic aspects.
