History and Townscape
Godiasco combines visible history with trails through the hilly landscape along the Staffora. A section of the 13th-century city wall is visible and includes two surviving towers: one is located on Via del Castello, the other on Via della Cerchia. The towers are made of stone and river pebbles and decorated with a band of bricks.
The Church of San Siro and Santa Reparata is located on present-day Piazza Cagnoni in Godiasco, was built in the 12th century and is dedicated to these two saints. Palazzo Malaspina is situated next to the old church in Godiasco. The Malaspina family's former seat of power is privately owned.
Trails through the Landscape
Circular Trail 170 starts and ends in Godiasco, is 7.5 kilometres long and has a moderate difficulty level. Offering panoramic views, it climbs the northern slope of the Staffora to the village of Gomo. The route then follows an asphalt road to Verone and returns from there to Godiasco.
Hiking Trail 171 connects Godiasco and Salice Terme along the orographically left side of the Staffora. Halfway along the route, a short detour allows you to visit Montalfeo.
The Voghera–Varzi Greenway is a paved cycle and pedestrian path. It is 33 kilometres long and follows the route of the railway line between Voghera and Varzi, which has been disused for more than half a century.
Things to Do in Godiasco and Salice Terme
If you would like to use the courses at Parco Avventura Salice Terme, a ticket and participation in the briefing conducted by the person responsible for safety are required. The ticket includes personal protective equipment, instruction in movement and safety techniques, and supervision by the responsible staff.
A place with far-reaching views is the Panchina Gigante di Godiasco #247. It is located at an altitude of almost 500 metres and offers panoramic views from Monviso to Monte Rosa and from Monte Penice to Monte Giarolo. In Salice Terme, the historic spa park features centuries-old trees and shady avenues. It is suitable for relaxing, walking and exercising.
The thermal waters of Salice Terme come from underground basins of marine origin and from sulphur springs. In the hills above Salice Terme, including in Alta Collina, lavender fields bloom every year. Their flowering period lasts from the end of June to the beginning of July.
