Brebbia between cultural history, wetland and lakeshore

Brebbia combines local history with landscapes that extend into the wider regional surroundings. In the town, a church declared a national monument in 1844 and a pipe museum shape its cultural identity; near Brebbia are a peat wetland and the Sabbie d'Oro beach on Lake Maggiore.

Cultural History in the Town

The Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo was declared a national monument in 1844. A Roman stone dedicated to Minerva is built into its northern wall.

It supplied motive power for his textile mill in Gavirate and public lighting for the squares of Brebbia, Olginasio, Biandronno and Gavirate. At the Mulino Piona, one of the four wheels that once powered the machines can be seen from the outside.

Wetland, River Mouth and Lakeshore Landscape

Laghetasch is a peat wetland with fluctuating water levels on Motto Pivione hill near Brebbia. Another landscape feature is Sabbie d'Oro beach: it lies on Lake Maggiore at the mouth of the Bardello River. Reeds of the Cannuccia di palude species and white willows (Salix Alba) grow there; 29 bird species also breed there.
