Between Lake Lugano and the Tresa

Lavena Ponte Tresa lies at the southwestern end of Lake Lugano. Near Lavena Ponte Tresa, the lake forms a bay before its waters flow into the Tresa River and onward to Lake Maggiore. The river separates Lavena Ponte Tresa from the identically named town of Ponte Tresa in Switzerland. This sequence of lake, river and two identically named towns defines the destination's geographical character.

On the shore and at the small harbor of Lavena Ponte Tresa stands the bell tower of the former parish church of Santi Pietro e Paolo. It is the only surviving element of the old parish church, which was demolished in 1960.
