Campodonico between hiking trails, mountain views and monastic history

Hiking trails with different profiles

Campodonico is accessible to people with disabilities. The CAI hiking loop IT 6.09 is rated difficulty level E, is 10.8 km long and has 580 metres of ascent; it connects Campodonico, Monte Pordinaldo, Casale Val di Mazzi, a small, unstaffed mountain hut, and Trofigno.

The CAI hiking trail IT 6.07 begins at the car park of Hotel Pineta in Campodonico. It passes the Abbazia di San Biagio in Caprile, an old Benedictine monastery, and reaches viewpoints overlooking the Campodonico valley.

The CAI route IT 6.09 also begins at the car park of Hotel Pineta in Campodonico. It runs through a mixed forest of coniferous and deciduous trees to a clearing with views over the Campodonico valley.

The CAI route IT 6.08 partly follows a stream and leads to the renovated Casolare di Trofigno.

The CAI hiking trail IT 7.04 is 17.5 km long, rated difficulty level E and has 1,020 metres of ascent. The long-distance hiking trail ILP 5.04 is also rated difficulty level E, is 26.2 km long and leads from Castagna di Spindoli via S. Biagio in Caprile to Fabriano. The different distances and elevation gains help you assess your own daily planning. Distance and elevation figures distinguish shorter routes from longer ones, while the forest, stream, clearing and viewpoints mark different impressions of the landscape.

Mountain landscapes and wide-ranging views

Monte Giuoco del Pallone received its name because of its unusual shape, which resembles a football stadium. From Monte Giuoco del Pallone, the view extends to the Gemmo area, San Vicino, Gola della Rossa, Strega, Catria, Cucco, the mountains around Gualdo Tadino, Pennino, Monte Primo and the Sibillini Mountains.

At Sasso Barbano there is a cross that is considered a prominent viewpoint over the valley and the surrounding mountains.

Monastic history near Caprile

The Monastero S. Biagio in Caprile near Campodonico dates back to the 11th century. Together with the Abbazia di San Biagio, which the IT 6.07 passes, it is one of the cultural and historical points of interest that can be combined with the hiking trails.
