Maiolati Spontini can be discovered through three clearly distinct facets: Parco Colle Celeste with its views, the cultural sites associated with Gaspare Spontini, and the Via dei Tesori leading from Moie. Gardens, cultural heritage, Romanesque architecture and trails through the Vallesina thus come together.

Parco Colle Celeste and the View over the Esino Valley

Parco Colle Celeste features a tree-lined avenue, a woodland and a viewing terrace. From there, the view extends across the Esino Valley towards the Adriatic. The grounds were designed as a garden for public walks in honour of Celeste Erard. The park therefore combines a landscaped setting with a clear historical connection. The statue of the Virgin Mary in Parco Colle Celeste was inaugurated in 1858 and adds another distinctive feature within this site.

Gaspare Spontini as a Connecting Thread

The Casa natale di Gaspare Spontini was declared a national monument in 1924. The Museo Gaspare Spontini offers another way to explore the composer's biography. It is located in the residence that Gaspare Spontini and Celeste Erard bought and redesigned for their return to Maiolati. The sarcophagus of Gaspare Spontini is kept in the Chiesa di San Giovanni, together with a medallion traditionally attributed to Antonio Canova.

Romanesque Architecture in Moie

Another focus of cultural and historical interest lies in Moie. The Abbazia di Santa Maria delle Moie dates back to the 12th century and is an important Romanesque church in the region. Its church has three naves and can also be understood as a Greek cross plan inscribed within a square. The precise architectural form makes the building particularly interesting if you would like to get to know historic churches not only through their age, but also through their design.

The Former Brickworks as a Cultural Centre

The former brickworks in Moie is also part of the local history. It was repurposed as the eFFeMMe23 Biblioteca La Fornace cultural centre. The centre includes a library, meeting spaces and activities for all age groups. The Hoffmann kiln dates from 1923.

Cycling or Walking through the Vallesina

From Moie, the Via dei Tesori follows the Esino River as a cycle and walking route through the landscapes, river parks and side roads of the Vallesina. For practical orientation, the Via dei Tesori has parking, refreshment and meeting points and can be accessed from provincial roads.

When planning your stay, you can choose your focus according to your interests: the views and historic garden, the traces of Gaspare Spontini, the Romanesque architecture in Moie or a stage along the Via dei Tesori. The combination of cultural history, landscape and activity gives Maiolati Spontini a diverse profile, without the individual sites losing their own significance.
