Historic Centre and Orientation

In the historic centre of Monte San Vito, located on a hill, Piazza della Repubblica offers a viewpoint. The tour of the historic centre begins at the tourist information office on the same piazza. There, you can download the route and information in Italian and English. This gives you a clear point of reference for the first steps through the town.

Teatro La Fortuna and the Theatre Season

Teatro La Fortuna was founded in 1757 in a former olive mill. Teatro Condominiale La Fortuna was converted from an olive mill and was available for performances from 1758 onwards. Teatro La Fortuna has an elongated bell-shaped floor plan, white and old-rose stucco, and a depiction of Bacchus above the proscenium. Monte San Vito’s theatre season usually takes place between January and April.

Churches, Palazzi and Historic Buildings

The historic Frantoio storico dates back to the 17th century and is evidence of agricultural-industrial archaeology. It has been largely preserved unchanged and retains its original olive-processing equipment. The restored Frantoio storico was converted into a museum for tourism purposes.

The Church of San Pietro Apostolo is designed in the late Baroque style and features Vanvitellian and Neoclassical elements. The Church of San Giovanni Apostolo was built in 1609 just outside the town walls of the time, near Porta Nuova, and was blessed in 1613; it houses two paintings depicting John the Baptist and John the Evangelist. Palazzo Malatesta contains twelve tempera paintings in the ceiling lunettes by Carlo Boria, depicting important moments in local life and the history of the 20th century.

The “Carlo Urbani” Centro Turistico Culturale is housed in a former Cistercian monastery. The former monastery became the headquarters of the Consorzio Agrario in 1903 and, following restoration in 2006, was converted into a cultural tourism centre. The Santissima Concezione complex includes the Church of the Santissima Concezione and a former monastery. In the historic centre, Palazzo Cavallari is a notable stop for walks through the town’s narrow streets, but it is not a museum with fixed visiting hours.

Festa del Patrono San Vito

The traditional Festa del Patrono San Vito takes place on 19, 20 and 21 June 2026 in the historic centre of Monte San Vito. Its programme includes competitions between the town districts, music, food stalls, children’s entertainment, and a traditional fair with market stalls and exhibitors.

Wine, Olive Oil and a Circular Route

Monte San Vito lies in the DOC wine-growing area of Lacrima di Morro d’Alba. Podere Santa Lucia produces wines from the Lacrima, Verdicchio and Incrocio Bruni grape varieties, as well as olive oil from the Frantoio, Leccino and Raggia olive varieties. Directly at its winery in Monte San Vito, at Via Santa Lucia 65, Podere Santa Lucia operates a sales outlet for its wines. Fattoria Petrini is an organic, family-run olive-growing farm that produces extra virgin olive oil.

The Monte San Vito e Borghetto circular route first follows the south-eastern slope to the hamlet of Borghetto and into the valley of the Torrente Guardengo, before climbing back up along the same slope.
