Numana between the Conero Riviera, beaches and culture
Numana combines the seascape of the Conero Riviera with an archaeological past, regional wine culture and various ways to experience the coast. If you are looking for a destination for your trip where beach days, culture and excursions can be meaningfully combined, Numana offers several clearly distinct facets.
Coast and seaside excursions
Several beaches are located in the immediate vicinity of Numana: Spiaggia di Numana Alta, Spiaggia del Frate, Spiaggia Urbani and Spiaggia di San Michele. A large white rock known as Sasso del Bo (Bue) dominates the scenery at Spiaggia del Frate. The Marina di Numana is a starting point for discovering the beaches and nature of the Conero Riviera. Guided boat tours along the Conero may include views of cliffs and caves as well as stops for swimming. The town's former connection to Due Sorelle beach is also part of its maritime heritage: there was a direct ferry connection there from Numana.
Archaeology, museums and local traditions
The Antiquarium Statale di Numana presents the historical and cultural development of ancient Numana and the Conero Riviera from prehistoric times to the Roman period. Among the special exhibits is the richly furnished tomb ensemble of the Regina di Sirolo, with Attic and Picenian pottery, bronze objects, jewellery made of ivory, bronze and amber, as well as the remains of a single-horse carriage and a war chariot.
There are also several museums in the area around Numana: the Museo Internazionale della Fisarmonica, the Pinacoteca Comunale A Moroni and the Mostra Archeologica Permanente Divi Dee. Palazzo Mancinforte is another cultural and historical point of interest there. The traditional Cristo-Re celebration is a fixed date in the annual calendar: it takes place in Numana on the last Sunday in October and dates back to ancient customs of the local community.
Cycling and landscape
Bike tours from Numana combine the seascape with the scents and colours of the Mediterranean maquis. The Anello cicloturistico del Conero is rated as difficult and is therefore particularly suited to planning that consciously takes the sporting challenge into account. This allows you to choose between a coast-focused break, cultural sightseeing and a more active exploration of the landscape, without reducing Numana to just one type of travel experience.
Rosso Conero from the surrounding area
Around twenty wineries in the Numana area produce Rosso Conero DOC and Rosso Conero Riserva DOCG from Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes. These different interests can provide useful guidance when choosing a hotel or other accommodation: the key question is whether you want to focus your trip primarily on beaches, museums, boat tours, bike tours or the culinary side of the region.
Other places in the surrounding area
For further orientation, you can also explore Cancelli, Maiolati Spontini, Rocca Priora, Castelbellino, Coldellanoce, San Marcello, Morro D'alba and Caudino.
