Polverigi: History, Art and Far-Reaching Views

Polverigi is situated on a low hill spur above a small valley between two short river branches. From the viewpoints in Polverigi, the view extends across the sea, the Conero promontory, the alluvial plain of the Esino River and the Apennines.

Traces of the Middle Ages and Baroque

The ancient castle of Polverigi was built in the 11th to 12th century and has a curtain wall. The Chiesa del Sacramento adds another historical accent. The church dates from the 13th century, has a Romanesque-Gothic layout and was rebuilt during the Baroque period.

The Palazzo Comunale houses the 15th-century fresco known as the “Crocifissione di Polverigi”. Also in the Palazzo Comunale, the Sala della Pace commemorates a peace treaty concluded in 1202 between 26 municipalities of the Marca Anconetana. Architecture, art and political history come together here at closely interconnected sites.

Villa Nappi: Monastic Remains and Artists’ House

Villa Nappi is a historic building on the remains of a monastery founded by the Eremitani in the 12th century. At the same time, Villa Nappi serves as an artists’ house for artistic creation, learning and expression. Thus, traces of the monastic past meet an explicitly art-focused use at this location.

Museums and Destinations in the Surrounding Area

Several museums are located in the area around Polverigi: the Museo di Scienze “Campana”, the Museum Diocesano di Osimo Osimo, the Civica Galleria del Figurino Storico and the Galleria D'Arte Van Sent Di Baietti Milena. These destinations expand the town’s historical focus to include scientific, diocesan and artistic themes.

The Parco Zoo Falconara is also located in the surrounding area. As a zoo, it offers a separate excursion focus alongside the museums and historic buildings of Polverigi.

From Regional Specialties to the Beach

At the “Malaserena Anima Mundi” agriturismo, you can sample local products and regional specialties as part of the route. This allows the culinary side to be combined with a trip that is equally interested in history, art and landscapes.

The beaches Spiaggia di Collemarino, Spiaggia di Falconara Marittim and Bersaglio are also located in the area around Polverigi. Together with the views of the sea and the Conero promontory, these destinations extend the stay beyond the town’s historic character towards the coastal landscape.

Theater and Special Insights

The POLVERIGINTEATROFEST was announced for Polverigi in 2026 with an event program running from June 4 to June 14.

During the Giornate FAI di Primavera in Polverigi, visitors were able to discover several particularly impressive and historically significant places that were normally not open to the public. This event represents a special form of cultural experience, but it should not be equated with these places being permanently accessible to the public.
