Montemonaco: Nature Trails, Stories and Chestnut Culture

Lago di Pilato is particularly striking: it is the only natural lake in the Marche region and lies within the municipality of Montemonaco at 1,941 metres above sea level. As a natural glacial lake, it formed in an ancient cirque. Its waters are home to the Chirocefalo del Marchesoni, scientifically known as Chirocephalus marchesonii.
