Frontone lies at the foot of the Monte Catria massif; its main peak reaches 1,701 meters. The town thus combines a mountain setting with cultural traces and regional cuisine. Specific points of interest include Monte Catria, the Rocca di Frontone, the Church of Santa Maria dell’Acqua Nera and Crescia di Frontone.
Mountain landscape and activities around Frontone
The area around Frontone is suitable for hiking, mountain biking and snowshoeing. For planning purposes, these activities differ above all in the means of travel required: hiking is done on foot, mountain biking by bicycle and snowshoeing with snowshoes. Frontone is also a stage of the Ciclo Appenninica Alte Marche cycling route. Birds of prey can be observed in the Frontone area. Birds of prey form a separate subject of observation there, independent of the three activities mentioned.
Churches, the Rocca and historical traces
Frontone’s cultural heritage includes several specific points of interest. The 14th-century Church of Santa Maria dell’Acqua Nera houses a terracotta statue of the Virgin Mary with Child. The municipal art collection is located in the Rocca di Frontone. It comprises works owned by the municipality that originate from the Church of Madonna del Soccorso.
The first documents concerning Castello della Porta and Frontone’s civic community date back to the 11th century. Castello della Porta is also connected to the “Pesaro-Urbino Rebirth - Terzo anello” hiking trail. The church and the castle represent different historical periods: the church dates from the 14th century, while the first documents concerning the castle and the civic community date from the 11th century.
Monte Catria and the Kinderland Adventure Park
The Kinderland Adventure Park is located in the Monte Catria area at an altitude of 1,400 meters, next to Refuge Cotaline. The park has three adventure courses with safety harnesses.
Crescia and festivals in the town center
The local cuisine is also part of the town’s character. Crescia di Frontone bears the municipal designation of origin. Crescia in graticola is prepared in Frontone directly over glowing coals. The designation of origin and the preparation method are thus directly associated with crescia from Frontone.
The Festa della Crescia e dello Spignolo takes place in Frontone’s town center every year at the end of May. The Palio del Conte di Frontone is a historical reenactment. In the Palio, Frontone’s four contrade compete against one another. They are named Teodoro, Antonio, Barbara and Madonna del Buonconsiglio, and compete in contests of skill and dexterity.
Motorhomes: parking options and basic facilities
Frontone belongs to the “Comune Amico del Turismo Itinerante” network. This network provides motorhomes with parking areas and basic facilities such as waste disposal and drinking water. The practical infrastructure is therefore explicitly geared toward motorhomes and their basic supply needs.
