Sant'Agapito: Churches, Nature and Living Traditions

Chiesa San Nicola di Bari is a late Romanesque parish church with a longitudinal layout, a central nave and a transept. The high altar dates from 1821.

Its tradition can be traced back to the 16th century, when the craft was practised by nuns. Tombolo lace is used for bed sheets, tablecloths, pictures and other components of a bride's trousseau.

Landscape between Matese and the Torrente Lorda

Sant'Agapito lies on the northwestern slopes of the Matese massif. The area includes a mountainous section in the south and a flat section in the north; elevations range from around 350 metres to 1,100 metres at Colle di Croce. For your planning, this means that the landscape cannot be reduced to a single elevation. For a single excursion, you can focus either on the natural environment or on the different types of terrain within the municipality.

For excursions, the section of the Torrente Lorda nature area between Sant'Agapito and Longano is suitable. The gorge is more than three kilometres long and covers around 70 hectares. Rifugio Cinciuni has a picnic area that can be included as a planned rest stop during an excursion in this natural area.

Horse Riding and Places of Interest

If you are looking for a more active option, the Samarcanda Equestrian Centre offers horse riding in both covered and uncovered riding areas. The two types of area can be considered separately when planning a riding appointment. Younger visitors can go on pony and donkey rides. The old olive mill is another place of interest in Sant'Agapito.

Festivals with Different Highlights

During the Festa del Patrono, the statue of the patron saint is carried through the streets of Sant'Agapito in a procession in the evening. The Festa del Patrono ends with a firework display and a music concert. The Sagra degli arrosticini is held repeatedly in Sant'Agapito Scalo and combines culinary specialities with live entertainment. The patron saint's festival has a religious character, while the sagra is culinary and musical.
